
Visit Urrugne, a charming village in the Labourd region, where two local producers will show you around their farm. Contact Sébastien Fourcade, from the Maison Onjo Leku, to arrange a time to visit his farm. Pantxika and Xabi Zozaya are available in the morning to show you how they produce their homemade cheese.
Head towards Ascain along the D810 towards Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Between Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Ascain, on the D918, stop at the Zone Artisanale Lanzelai to visit the Txopinondo Sagarnotegia ciderworks. Visit the museum of this original ciderworks where you can watch a DVD, take a tour of the cellar and taste some of the local sagarno (apple wine, apple juice and liqueurs).
Head back to the road and continue on to the village of Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle, a "station verte de vacances" (rural holiday centre). Visit the restored 15C mill, which is open to the public, the church, 19C washhouse and the ruins of the Château des Sorcières (Witches' Castle). There is also a small lake, which is well maintained and surrounded by greenery. Enjoy walks around the lake, which is popular for swimming and fishing and provides a relaxing environment for all the family.

Carry on to Sare, officially recognised as one of the "most beautiful villages in France". Visit the Musée du Gâteau Basque, situated in a verdant setting at the foot of La Rhune, the legendary Basque mountain. Learn all about the history and production of this regional delicacy, as made by a family in the last century, and enjoy a tasting of the delicious cake which is filled with cream or cherries, as well as the other Basque specialities produced here.

Head towards the "ventas", and you'll come to the Fromagerie Oreka where you can taste the famous cows' milk and mixed (made from cows' milk and sheep's milk) cheese.
Before leaving the village, take the time to go into the village and visit the church, the brand new bell tower and the traditional old houses. Then climb up the Col de Saint-Ignace and, once you're opposite the railway station for the La Rhune train, take the road to the right to the Maison Ortillopitz, an old Basque house which dates from 1660. A number of different themes allow visitors to learn all about the history of this fascinating house.
