The mountains

Although the area has strong links with the sea, the Basque Country is also a mountain region. The 905m-high La Rhune mountain dominates the region, offering breathtaking views of the coast and the Pyrenees. You can tackle the mountain on foot or by mountain bike, or you may prefer to take the cog railway or drive via the Col d’Ibardin. Numerous footpaths criss-cross the mountain summits.
